The Next Great Brands Will Have Lore

A logo can be recognized. Lore can be remembered.

Great brands have always had lore, even before marketers used the word.

The founder's story. The first store. The forbidden product. The celebrity who wore it. The ritual. The recurring symbol. The place everybody associates with the brand.

Lore is accumulated meaning.

Digital culture makes deliberate lore building more powerful because audiences can discover, remix and debate details over time.

The danger is forcing mythology where none exists. Fake lore feels like marketing homework.

The better approach is to create recurring elements with enough consistency that audiences begin attaching meaning themselves.

Characters. Objects. Locations. Phrases. Rituals. Mysteries. Traditions.

A campaign ends when the media stops.

Lore survives because somebody remembers the story.
